# How to Link Your Financial Accounts

> Step-by-step instructions for connecting your bank and financial accounts to Checkr Money.

Linking your financial accounts lets Checkr Money pull in your balances, transactions, and account details automatically.

## How to link an account

1. Open [Banks, payroll & credit](https://app.checkrmoney.com/data/connections) - it's in the sidebar on desktop web, and under **Settings** on a phone and on iOS
2. Under **Add new**, choose **Financial accounts** (banks, cards, loans, investments) or **Payroll** (income & employment)
3. Sign in to your institution through the secure connection widget
4. Complete any multi-factor verification your institution requires
5. Pick which accounts you want connected

Your data starts syncing right away. Balances and recent transactions typically appear within a few seconds.

On iOS 1.10 and later, if syncing takes longer, the syncing screen updates to let you know it's still working, and offers to send you a notification when your data is ready so you don't have to wait on the screen.

If you haven't connected anything yet, you can also start from the Home screen, where the setup checklist links to the same flow.

<Note>On iOS, before the secure widget opens, a short screen explains what Checkr Money connects to and how your data is kept safe. Tap continue to go on to your institution. See [Is Checkr Money Safe?](/trust-and-safety/is-mytruv-safe).</Note>

## Financial accounts vs. payroll

Checkr Money treats these as two separate connection types:

* **Financial accounts** - banks, credit cards, loans, investments. This is the main source for transactions, balances, spending, and net worth. Most people connect this first.
* **Payroll** - your employer, paycheck provider, or a gig platform such as DoorDash or Uber. Adds pay statements, deductions, and tax info - useful if you want detailed income tracking. See [Connecting Your Payroll](/accounts/connecting-payroll) for the full guide.

Both go through the same secure widget but they're tracked separately. You can connect one without the other.

<Note>Gig earnings can come in either way - as deposits from the bank your payouts land in, or from the platform itself as payroll. If you can't sign in to the bank or card behind your payouts, connect the platform under **Payroll** instead. See [Gig and delivery work](/accounts/connecting-payroll#gig-and-delivery-work).</Note>

## Free plan limits

The free plan includes one financial accounts connection and one payroll connection. **Checkr Money Pro** lets you connect additional accounts.

<Tip>Linking multiple accounts gives you a more complete financial picture and enables more accurate spending and cash flow tracking.</Tip>

<Note>If your institution requires multi-factor authentication, you'll be prompted to complete it during the linking process.</Note>
