# Setting Up Face ID or Touch ID

> Use biometric authentication to lock Checkr Money on your iOS device.

<Note>Biometric authentication is currently available on iOS. The web app uses your Auth0 session - sign out from Settings when you're done on a shared computer.</Note>

Biometric authentication lets you unlock Checkr Money quickly using your face or fingerprint instead of typing a PIN.

## How to enable biometric authentication

1. Open Checkr Money and go to **Settings → Security & Privacy**.
2. Toggle on **Lock with Face ID** (or **Touch ID** / **Optic ID**, depending on your device).
3. Confirm with the system biometric prompt to activate.

Checkr Money uses whatever biometric method your device offers. Make sure it's already set up in your device's system Settings; Checkr Money reuses the same biometric registration.

## When you'll be prompted

The app locks after a period of inactivity - the timeout is configurable in [App Lock Settings](/security/app-lock-settings). When you return after the timeout, the lock screen shows an **Unlock** button that triggers biometric authentication. Returning to the app within the timeout window doesn't prompt re-auth.

## Biometric and PIN are mutually exclusive

You can use biometric authentication **or** a PIN, but not both at the same time. Enabling biometric replaces an existing PIN as the active method, and setting a PIN disables biometric. To switch, toggle the one you want in Security & Privacy.

## If you can't authenticate

The lock screen always offers a **Log out** button below the unlock control. Tapping it signs you out of Checkr Money; signing back in re-engages the same lock the next time the app sits idle past the timeout. Use Log out if you can't authenticate and want to start fresh.
