# Understanding Transaction Status

> What pending and posted statuses mean, and where to see them in Checkr Money.

Each transaction has a status that tells you where it is in the processing cycle. Checkr Money shows the status exactly as reported by your financial institution.

## Where you see the status

<Note>
  Statuses live with your transactions, on [Transactions](https://app.checkrmoney.com/data/transactions).

  **On the web** - the **Pending** badge appears on the transaction row and again in the detail panel. Posted transactions don't show a badge in the list, only in the detail panel.

  **On iOS** - the status appears as a dot indicator on the transaction detail sheet.
</Note>

## Transaction statuses

### Pending

A pending transaction has been initiated but hasn't fully processed yet. This is common for:

* Recent purchases that haven't been finalized by the merchant
* Debit card transactions that are being authorized
* Transfers that are still being processed

Pending transactions may:

* **Change in amount** - the final posted amount might differ slightly (e.g. a restaurant tip added after the swipe)
* **Take 1-5 business days** to become posted, depending on the institution
* **Be removed entirely** if the transaction is canceled or the hold is released

### Posted

A posted transaction has been fully processed and finalized. The amount is final and has been officially recorded by your financial institution.

## Recurring and internal transfer badges

Besides the bank status above, a transaction can carry a badge for a marking you or Checkr Money applied. These are separate from the bank-reported status - your institution doesn't set them:

* **Recurring** - marks the transaction as part of a regular series, such as a subscription or recurring bill. Merchants you mark as recurring show up on the **Recurring** page.
* **Internal transfer** - marks the transaction as money moving between your own accounts rather than spending, so it is not counted in your spending totals.

The marking shows as a small badge on the merchant logo in your transaction list and in Recent transactions on Home, and again in the transaction's detail view. A row shows one badge at most: if a transaction is both, the internal transfer badge wins, since that's the marking that changes how the amount counts.

<Tip>List badges are in Checkr Money iOS 1.9 and later. On iOS, every row on the Recurring page and in Home's Upcoming also carries the recurring badge; on the web those rows show the series status instead.</Tip>

On iOS (Checkr Money iOS 1.8 and later), apply either marking from the transaction's **...** menu: **Mark as internal transfer** / **Unmark internal transfer**, and **Add to recurring** / **Remove from recurring**. See [Tracking Your Subscriptions](/recurring/tracking-subscriptions#marking-or-removing-a-subscription-yourself) for how far a recurring change reaches.

On the web, open a transaction and use its menu: **Mark as internal transfer** / **Unmark internal transfer**, and **Add to recurring**. You can also ask your AI assistant - for example "Mark my monthly HelloFresh charge as a subscription" or "This is a transfer between my accounts, not spending" - and reverse a marking the same way ("stop treating HelloFresh as recurring"). The assistant can do this on iOS too. See [Meet Your AI Assistant](/assistant/meet-your-ai-assistant) for more.

## What to watch for

* **Pending amounts may change** - the final posted amount can differ from the pending amount
* **Pending transactions may disappear** - if a hold is released or a transaction is voided, the pending entry is removed
* **Duplicate-looking entries** - briefly you might see both a pending and a posted version of the same transaction; the pending one will drop off once posting is complete

<Note>Checkr Money reflects what your bank reports - it doesn't change a transaction's status on its own. If you have concerns about a specific transaction (unauthorized charge, stuck in pending for over a week, etc.), contact your bank directly.</Note>
